Austin has something most cities don't — a combination of natural beauty, warm golden light, and parks that feel genuinely romantic rather than just nice. We're based in North Austin and set up picnics all across the city. After doing this long enough, you learn which spots have the best light, which ones feel most intimate, and which ones make every photo worth framing. Here are the 10 we return to most.
1. Mount Bonnell — The Most Dramatic View
The highest point in Austin — panoramic views of the Colorado River, rolling hills, and the city spreading out below. The climb up the stone steps takes five minutes and the view at the top is one of the most dramatic in the city. Go at golden hour (5–7pm) and it's genuinely stunning. Perfect for a scenic walk followed by a hillside picnic setup.
2. Pennybacker Bridge Overlook — Golden Hour on Lake Austin
Iconic pink granite arch over Lake Austin with sweeping views of the water and the hills beyond. The overlook trail is short and easy, and the light at sunset turns everything warm and golden. One of Austin's most photographed views — and genuinely romantic in person. Arrive 30–45 minutes before sunset for the best light.
3. Emma Long Metropolitan Park — Lakeside and Wild
Right on the bank of Lake Austin. Massive oak trees, water views, and that unmistakable Texas-wild feeling. One of the most dramatic natural settings in the city — it photographs unlike anything else on this list. The water backdrop makes every picnic photo look like something out of a travel magazine.
4. Pease District Park — Quiet, Shaded, Timeless
One of Austin's oldest parks — giant pecan and oak trees, open lawns, and a sense of quiet that's rare this close to downtown. Romantic in a quieter way than a sunset overlook — the kind of place where you talk for two hours without noticing. Soft filtered light all afternoon, beautiful for intimate setups under the canopy.
The most romantic date isn't always the most dramatic one. Sometimes it's just the two of you, no distractions, somewhere beautiful — flowers, candles, and the afternoon to yourselves.
5. Zilker Park — Austin's Most Iconic Setting
Austin's most iconic park. Open fields, green year-round, the downtown skyline visible in the distance. One of our most-requested locations — and for good reason. The space works for everything from an intimate picnic for two to a large group spread.
6. Bull Creek District Park — Natural and Candid
Limestone outcroppings, a shallow creek, and dappled shade through the trees. Naturally beautiful and never overdone — photos here look candid and real, not staged. Perfect for couples who want something that feels effortless.
7. Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park — West Austin Escape
Lake Austin shoreline, open meadows, and tall trees that make the park feel completely removed from the city. One of the quieter options on this list — you feel like you have the whole place to yourselves. Beautiful for an afternoon when the rest of Austin feels too loud.
8. Northwest District Park — North Austin
Large open fields, mature oak canopy, and very little foot traffic on weekday afternoons. One of our most-booked North Austin locations — the open lawn gives us space to set up a full group spread, and the trees frame every photo beautifully. Close to our base, which means no travel fee.
9. Brushy Creek Regional Trail — North Austin / Cedar Park
A scenic creek corridor with grassy meadows and shaded clearings. Beautiful for intimate setups — the natural backdrop makes even a simple arrangement look professionally styled. Quiet, green, and far enough from traffic that you forget the city is nearby.
10. McKinney Falls State Park — Dramatic and Wild
Dramatic limestone waterfalls, clear swimming holes, and native Texas habitat. The furthest from our North Austin base — but worth every mile for the setting. Best for full-day bookings when you want the picnic to be part of a bigger outdoor adventure.
11. Mueller Lake Park — Central and Unexpected
One of Austin's best-kept secrets for a picnic. Mueller Lake Park sits in the heart of the city with a beautiful lake, open green lawns, and wide shaded areas — but feels nothing like a busy urban park. The water reflections at golden hour are stunning, and the open space is perfect for intimate setups for two or a full group spread.
We're based in North Austin, and most picnics fall within a 15-mile radius — covering North, Northwest, and Central Austin with no travel fee. For spots further out, a small travel fee applies ($2 per mile over 15 miles). Have a specific park in mind? Just ask — we can almost always make it work.
You pick the spot. We'll set up something beautiful. No idea? Tell us your vibe and we'll choose for you.
